Startup CGT concession redesign
Good news for Australian startups: the tax rules just got friendlier.

Treasurer Jim Chalmers has released exposure draft legislation redesigning the Innovative Business CGT Concession — removing the $10 million lifetime cap on eligible gains, cutting the required holding period from five years to three, and extending eligibility to 15 years across all sectors (the $50 million turnover threshold stays put). Feedback on the draft closes 28 September 2026. If you think your business could qualify, it's worth getting your share register and eligibility documentation in order now.
