Generative AI won't replace accountants. Accountants who use it will outperform those who don't

New industry commentary points to accountants reallocating 8-10% of their time away from routine data entry toward higher-value client work, with some firms cutting monthly reporting time from 3-4 days down to under one. The pattern holding true across the board: AI is best at auto-categorising transactions, drafting reconciliation notes and summarising bank feeds — the judgment calls still belong to a human. It's a good reminder for clients who assume "AI bookkeeping" means fewer people looking at their numbers, not more focused ones.
